Born on 26 May 1951 in the city of Aleppo, Syria.
From 22 to 30 July 1987 carried out a space flight as a research cosmonaut on board the Soyuz TM-3 spacecraft together with the ship's commanders A.S. Viktorko and A. Alexandrov. The docking with the Mir station took place on 24 July. During the flight, the Syrian cosmonaut carried out experiments in space medicine and materials science. On 30 July 1987, the Soyuz TM-2 spacecraft with a crew consisting of A.S. Viktorenko, A.I. Loveikin and M. Faris undocked from the Mir station and landed successfully the same day. The flight lasted 7 days, 23 hours and 4 minutes.
Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal (30.07.1987), awarded the Medal "For Merits in Space Exploration" (12.04.2011).
