From 21 December 1987 to 21 December 1988 he performed a space flight as a flight engineer on the spacecraft "Soyuz TM-4" and the orbital complex "Mir" (Commander - V.G. Titov) with a duration of 365 days and 23 hours. The landing was carried out on the spacecraft "Soyuz TM-6". The world record for the duration of a space flight was set.
Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star (21.12.1988). Awarded the Order of the October Revolution (26.05.1991), Medal "For Merits in Space Exploration" (12.04.2011).
