Born on 7 January 1951 in the village of Kargaly, Republic of Kazakhstan.
From 1 July to 4 November 1994, he made his first space flight as a flight engineer on the Soyuz TM-19 and Mir spacecraft in the EO-16 programme. During the flight, he made two spacewalks. The flight lasted 125 days, 22 hours and 53 minutes.
By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated 24 November 1994, for active participation in the preparation and successful execution of a long international space flight on the orbital research complex "Mir", for courage and heroism displayed during this flight, Lieutenant-Colonel Musabaev Talgat Amangeldievich was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation with the award of a badge of special distinction - the "Gold Star" medal.
