Born on 13 May 1942 in the village of Iskander, Bostanlyk district, South Kazakhstan region, Kazakh SSR (now an urban settlement in the Tashkent region, Republic of Uzbekistan).
Vladimir Dzhanibekov - cosmonaut, first class (1982), one of the most experienced Russian cosmonauts. He made five orbital flights with a total duration of 145 days 15 hours 58 minutes and two spacewalks (total time - 8 hours 35 minutes). During all his flights he was the commander of the spacecraft crews.
Dzhanibekov's first flight was on 10 January 1978 with Oleg Makarov aboard the Soyuz-27 spacecraft. The cosmonauts worked on the Salyut-6 orbital station as part of the visiting expedition programme. Yuri Romanenko and Georgy Grechko, members of the first Salyut-6 main expedition who arrived on the Soyuz-26 spacecraft, were on the station at the same time. The flight lasted 5 days 22 hours 58 minutes 58 seconds.
